WAEC Guidelines for WASSCE Markers Out, Strategies to fish out Exams cheaters revealed
WAEC Guidelines for WASSCE markers is out, with strategies to fish out exams cheaters to get them punished. The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the marking scheme for the 2019 WASSCE for schools. This release came along with some other rules to ensure that, those who might have cheated are penalized individually and as schools.
According to the press release of the examination body dated 28th June 2019, the grading system for the 2019 exams is as follows

85-100 Raw scores A1 Excellent
80-84 Raw scores B2 Very Good
75-79 Raw scores B3 Good
70-74 Raw scores C4 Credit
65-69 Raw scores C5 Credit
56-64 Raw scores C6 Credit
51-55 Raw scores D7 Pass
45-54 Raw scores E8 Pass
0-44 Raw scores F9 Fail
WAEC urged all its officials and markers to adhere strictly to the content of the press release in the discharge of the duties during the marking of the examination scripts all associated duties.
In the same press release, WAEC indicated that the copy work of three (3) candidates leads to the cancellation of that particular subject. It further advised markers to take note of the grades.

The examining body in its quest to ensure the credibility of the examination directed that where the examiners or markers identity ten (10) candidates copied each other, the results of the entire school in which the candidates sat for the examination should be cancelled.
It also requested markers to take note that an indirect proper explanation by a candidate renders the answer as a wrong explanation.
Before the 2019 WASSCE, Newsghana24.com published that, there were persons who were trying to sell supposed WASSCE 2019 questions on social media. During the examination, invigilators and some teachers raised the red flag over the exam calling on the West African Examination Council to cancel certain papers however, their plea was not taken.

The current press release suggests that WAEC is trying to take important corrective actions to remedy the damage just in case some students had foreknowledge of the exams.

With this in place, many of those who cheated may fall but others will escape. But time will tell when the results are finally released.
