Our democracy has never been this ugly according to Hon. Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament elect for North Tongu in the Volta Region. His comments come after several disgraceful happenings that have unfolded in parliament throughout the morning.
Incidents that have occurred include the exchange of words, attempts to physically attack members of parliament from the political divide.
A commotion also ensued when Ursula shoved Collin Dauda onto the floor, which raised tempers in an already charged chamber. Ursula insisted on sitting with the NDC MPs despite attempts by the leadership of the NPP to have her sit on the left side.
Snatching of ballots during the counting of votes to determine who is elected as Speaker of parliament for the 8th parliament of the 4th republic was another ugly act that does not paint a good picture of Ghana.

The bringing of the military to the floor of parliament was also another wrong decision. The armed military personnel came into the chamber after prolonged bouts of disagreement.
“The chamber is a representative of the people…how can you bring the military to the chamber?” the NDC MPs were heard yelling.
The Member of Parliament elect for North Tongu in another tweet asked if Ghana was practicing the “Rule of law or rule of partisan masquerades?”
Ghana’s growing democracy is being tested as Ghana awaits the announcement of the Speaker of parliament, other leaderships for businesses on the floor in the 8th Parliament of the 4th republic.
