NUGS gives WAEC one week to release all withheld 2024 WASSCE results

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has given the West African Examination Council (WAEC) one week to release all 2024 withheld WASSCE results or face worldwide protest.
It has been almost two months since WAEC withheld over ten thousand students who took part in the 2024 WASSCE. This is a result of being suspected of having engaged in alleged malpractices. This has caused a lot of trauma to these students.
NUGs now give WAEC one week to release the results or face worldwide protest. They assume that WAEC deliberately delayed the results just to prevent students from accessing university this year.
The union further raised concerns about WAEC’s failure to grant the various students a fair hearing before withholding their papers. WAEC should have given the affected student a tangible reason as well as a fair hearing before withholding the results.
The union’s president, Daniel Korley, warned that failure to release the results after one week would lead to worldwide protests.
“We demand immediate reforms to address these injustices. If WAEC fails to act, NUGS will escalate this matter through legal and advocacy channels, including seeking judicial intervention,” says the president.

The union has called for the removal of WAEC Ghana’s head over the unfair treatment of students accused of alleged malpractices.
WAEC still stressed the fact that only deserving students should be given their grades in order to further their education.
NUGs urge students to calm down but also demand their rights.
The withholding of results of WASSCE students is not a new practice; however, parents and candidates have been agitating against the approach used by WAEC in the last few years. The 2024 WASSCE result was withheld and the countercalls and lawsuits.
This and other issues raised by parents have given the approach WAEC uses more scrutiny than before.
WAEC has also stated that the process it takes suspected students and scripts through is fair, and aims at ensuring fairness at all levels.
