Minister of National Security Takes Citizen Awareness Campaign to the Upper East Region

As part of a security tour of the Upper East Region, the Minister for National Security, Honorable Albert Kan-Dapaah, accompanied by Edward Asomani, Deputy National Security; Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah, Chief of Army Staff; Air Vice-Marshal Frank Hanson, Chief of Air Staff; and Brig Gen Moses Mohammed Aryee, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command, met with the members of the Border Security (BORSEC) of the Upper East Region and the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to discuss key issues of security in the region.

This meeting comes on the back of the recent terrorist attacks in Togo, signalling the realisation of the expansion ambitions of terrorist groups operating in the Sahel region to the coastal West African States.

The Minister of National Security in his address to the groups highlighted the need to sustain ongoing public awareness campaigns at the regional level to enhance efforts to at addressing the growing threat of terrorism.

It would be recalled that the Ministry of National Security on 24th May 2022 launched a Citizen Awareness Campaign dubbed “See Something Say Something”.

The campaign, in line with the whole-of-society approach that underpins the National Security Strategy, is aimed at encouraging citizens to be more security conscious and report suspicious persons or activities to enable the State effectively respond to the threat of terrorism and violent extremism.
