GWC maintenance work at Weija work to temporarily cut water supply in 20 areas

The residents and businesses across more than twenty communities in Accra are about to face significant water supply disruption this Friday as the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) undertakes critical maintenance at the Wejia Water Treatment Plant.
The utility company disclosed on Thursday, December 18, 2025, during a press release that, there is a scheduled shutdown of the plant from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 19th December 2025. The kid of exercise is part of what GWCL highlight it as ongoing dedication to make sure that everything is safe and reliable. it also focuses on the sustainability of water supply, epecially during the upcoming Christmas festivities.
This kind of temporary shutdown will stop production and distribution which is directly affecting water supply to a wide range of the capital. The affected areas are clearly listed: Accra Central, Dansoman, Mallam, Wejia, Gbawe, McCarthy Hill, Kaneshie, Odorkor, Korle Bu, Mamprobi, Chorkor, Abeka La Paz, Tesano, Kokomlemle, Alajo, Nima, Maamobi, Dzorwulu, Abelemkpe and all neighboring communities. The Management has given assurance to the public that all the needed resources and support are ready for the works, with technical teams who are expected to put in a lot of effort so that they will be able to complete the task within the said twelve-hour window. The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) gave customers a strong advise to store enough water in advance to minimize inconvenience.
Mr. Adam Mutawakilu, who is the Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), drew to attention how important the maintenance is by saying that “This maintenance exercise is crucial for sustaining the integrity of our water infrastructure and improving service delivery. We have deployed all necessary resources and will work diligently to complete the task on schedule.”
The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL)said they were sorry for any inconvenience caused and asked people to cooperate and understand the ongoing maintenance. Water production and distribution are expected to resume immediately upon completion of the works.
