Family threatens to take on Trinity Hospital over missing corpse

The Animley family from Osuwem in the Shai-Osudoku district is confronting a grave situation following the mysterious missing of their corpse from Trinity Hospital Mortuary located in Lebanon-Ashaiman, Ashaiman Municipality.
This distressing incident has prompted the family to consider legal action against the hospital for the undue distress and embarrassment caused to them.
The late Mary Animley Opare, aged 57, was scheduled to be laid to rest in a ceremony planned at Kakasunanka No.1 in the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality from April 19 to 20.
However, the family was compelled to abruptly cancel the funeral when they were informed that Mrs. Opare’s body was inexplicably missing from the morgue.
Pastor Michael Tetteh, one of Mrs. Opare’s children, expressed the family’s profound shock and determination in a resolute tone.
“We gathered relatives from all over the country for the funeral, only to find ourselves caught in this nightmare with no body to bury,” he lamented.
The distraught family insists that the morgue must recover and return their mother’s body as a matter of urgency, appealing to the community for support in their quest for resolution.
The situation has placed the family under considerable financial and emotional strain.
Newsghana24 reported that the family had invested GH¢70,000 in preparations for the funeral, only to be met with what they describe as “a bizarre nightmare.”
Theophilus Animley, representing the family head, conveyed the profound impact of the ordeal. “Our frequent visits to the mortuary over the past three months after her passing now seem futile.
As members of a royal family, this pain cuts deep. While such unusual incidents are heard of in other places, facing it firsthand has been incredibly hard,” he explained.
The frequent trips to the mortuary, compounded by the significant financial outlays made in preparation for the funeral, underscore the severity of their loss and the added burden of the missing corpse.
The cancellation of the funeral not only resulted in financial loss but also inflicted a heavy emotional toll on the family, who were prepared to honor their matriarch with the presence of numerous well-wishers.
Now, filled with a mixture of pain, sadness, rage, and embarrassment, the Animley family is seeking accountability and answers.
Their situation highlights the broader implications of such incidents on the trust placed in medical and mortuary facilities.
As they navigate their grief and seek justice, the Animley family’s plight serves as a poignant reminder of the need for stringent oversight and accountability in the handling and care of deceased loved ones in medical facilities.
