Election 2024 update: 3 Police officers interdicted over limited voter registration misconduct

As part of the EC’s preparations for the conduct of the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections, the EC interdicted three officers of the Ghana Police Service for limited voter registration misconduct.
For failing to carry out their duties in a professional manner during the ongoing Limited Voter Registration Exercise, the officers faced interdiction.
On May 11, 2024, the Electoral Commission Office in Adugyama, Ashanti Region, accused Inspector Michael Addo, G/CONST. Eric Boakye, and G/CONST. Michael Gyan of mishandling their security duties, leading to their interdiction.
The Ghana Police Service stated in a press release sighted by NewsGhana24.com that the officers fell short while at post during the voter registration exercise.
The release stated that on May 11, 2024, Inspector Michael Addo, G/CONST. Eric Boakye, and G/CONST. Michael Gyan, who were in charge of security at the Electoral Commission Office at Adugyama in the Ashanti region, failed to perform their duties properly when some individuals attempted to disrupt the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.
According to the official communiqué from the Ghana Police on the matter, the three officers will undergo the appropriate disciplinary process within the Police Service.
Following the incident, the Mankranso Government Hospital treated three injured individuals before releasing them.
The confrontation allegedly intensified when NDC party agents obstructed the registration efforts of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate at the centre.
Beginning on May 7th, the EC’s limited voter registration programme aims to register approximately 623,000 new voters to supplement the current register for the December 7th, 2024 elections.
Some parts of the country have reported violent incidents during the registration.
A police press release stated that there had been disturbances at centres including Cape Coast in the Central Region, Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, and Adugyama in the Ashanti Region.
