Some of the glaring factors contributing to the weakening of the Ghanaian cedi are
- Economic Policy and Management: The effectiveness of economic policies, including fiscal and monetary policies, can impact the strength of a currency. Poor economic management can lead to inflation, which erodes the value of the currency.
- Trade Balance: The country’s trade balance, or the difference between exports and imports, can affect the value of its currency. A trade deficit, where imports exceed exports, can put downward pressure on the currency.
- Interest Rates: Central bank interest rates can influence the value of a currency. Higher interest rates can attract foreign investment, increasing demand for the currency and strengthening its value.
- Inflation: High inflation can erode the purchasing power of a currency, leading to depreciation.
- External Factors: Global economic conditions, such as changes in commodity prices or interest rates in major economies, can also impact the value of a currency.
