Criminal Investigations Department Remands Man for Assault in Viral Video

A man who was captured in a viral video assaulting a woman believed to be his wife has been remanded into police custody on November 17, 2025 by the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police in the Ga East Municipality.
John Odartey Lamptey who is also known as Nii Adjei has been charged with Physical Assault under the Section 1(b)(I) and 3(2) of the Domestic Violence Act, 2007 (Act 732). John Odartey’s siblings namely Louis Odartey Lamptey and Grace Kushie Lamptey were also arrested because they attempted to attack a female tenant they think she is the one who recorded and circulated the disturbing video.
The two siblings of John Odartey Lamptey have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, specifically a real risk to the safety of someone. John Odartey, together with his two siblings have been remanded into police custody and the three of them are expected to reappear in court on 3rd December, 2025.
The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service made it clear that, they are still looking for the woman who was assaulted. The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service said they are encouraging the public to help find her. They drew to attention that “anyone who has useful info should disclose it to the nearest Police Station.” The Police Service says all details details shared won’t be shared with anyone.
The Public Relations Officer for the Criminal Investigations Department Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo said again that, they are still dedicated to protecting the people who are going through abuse in their relationships.
